Copyblogger Weekly Wrap
I always find myself having to explain what it means to have internet relationships.
Last month, I went to South by Southwest. Next month, Im going to Blogworld (Im actually presenting at Blogworld, but sadly dont have enough people interested on my event page yet hint, hint). I go to these events, and I meet people Ive only known through email. Or from Twitter. Its fun.
But when my everyday-life friends hear this, they say, You go to meet people you know from the internet? and then give me wedgies and steal my lunch money.
I dont have a solution to this. I just thought Id share.
Heres what happened this week on Copyblogger:
Monday:
The Good Advice That Killed My Conversion Rate
Remember how well it didnt worked out in high school English class when everyone offered a dozen dumb suggestions on your work because they felt they had to say something? And remember how that kid next to you edited his girlfriends fairy tale romance so that Prince Charming killed everyone? Was that just my class?
Tuesday:
Three Worldclass WordPress Themes for Savvy Online Publishers
These three themes are for WordPress. And they are, dare I say, world class. If you consider yourself a savvy online publisher, I suggest you pick one up. And yes, this how you write a four-sentence summary based on the headline alone.
Wednesday:
Like Sonia, Im a fan of The Biggest Loser. (Id actually kind of like to endure a brutal Jillian Michaels workout, but then I also like Adventure Time a show which totally creeps my wife out and makes her vaguely suspicious of me.) But regardless of whether you like Jillian or that creepy purple horse, you cant question their knack for leadership. But, every leaders style is different, and what makes them effective arent tactics so youd better read this post unless you want to be the one receiving that nasty last chance workout.
Thursday:
Heres How Brevity Can Crush Your Copy
This post is all about the extra unnecessary redundant repetition of needless and unnecessary words in written copy that actually make your point both clearer and easier to understand. You might want to repeatedly review this post more than once to make sure you comprehend the concept and are able to understand it.
Friday:
The Market for Something to Believe in is Infinite: An Interview with Hugh MacLeod
In this episode of the IMfSP podcast, Sonia catches up with Hugh MacLeod of Gaping Void fame. They talk about success, business, and authority, but the bullet that interests me most is the one about how your heroes everyday lives are boring. And it makes sense. Dont you think The Flash ever reads a newspaper? Of course he does. He just does it really fast.
