Copyblogger Weekly Wrap
This was a fun week for me. A group of cool people and I launched The Badass Project, getting underway by debuting our inaugural interview with Copybloggers own Jon Morrow. (NOTE: If youre making assumptions about what a project with that name is, youre probably wrong and will be ashamed of yourself for thinking ill of me after you see what it actually is. Shame on you. Now subscribe to something I do as penance.)
But it got me thinking: Given the theme of the Project, what would a true Badass think if I were to shirk my duties as Wrap guy and embezzle tens of thousands of dollars from Copyblogger as I was planning on doing last weekend before getting sidelined? Would they think it was noble and good? Or would they think it was unethical?
I guess it just underscores the fuzzy nature of morality. Nobody can really say whether that would be right or wrong.
Anyway, heres what happened this week on Copyblogger:
Monday:
Has the Internet Made Teaching Lucrative?
Yeah, I really have to underscore the distinction Josh is making here, between teaching and being in education. This post is all about how to make it as a teacher online, because theres never been a better time. Its NOT about how to join the school system where, as a certain student teacher at my high school learned, the kids might just call you badger head and form small groups to set things on fire and/or loudly discuss the weekends activities while youre yammering away ignored up at the chalkboard.
Tuesday:
The Cowardly Lions Guide to Conquering! Your En trepreneurial Fears
Despite the fact that I really cant stand looking at the Cowardly Lion (whats up with that bow? Dude.) I really liked this post because it reveals a truth that most people dont understand courage isnt about not being afraid. Everyone gets afraid from time to time. True courage is taking action despite fear. To wit: the Cowardly Lions continuing to walk around in Little Orphan Annie curls despite the constant threat of hazing.
Wednesday:
The 6 Essential Steps to Writing a Killer Press Release
The press release still lives in the internet age! Luckily, this post contains somewhere between five and seven steps involved in writing a good press release, whether or not actual killers (or the band The Killers, or the 1991 Chow Yun-Fat movie The Killer) are involved. No steps involve killing, unless were talking about killing as in doing really well in getting lots of press attention. Holler!
Thursday:
Attention: Is Your Headline Getting Any?
This podcast episode is about cutting through the noise out there thats competing for your readers attention. If youve ever wanted to grab your readers by the collar and yell at them to pay attention, this is the way: The headline. There are lots of tips in the podcast, but heres a headline or email subject line that Ill tell you now is a real winner in terms of getting people to take notice: YOUR CAT IS ON FIRE! Works even if they dont have a cat. Try it.
Friday:
5 Tips for Bette! r Result s with Mobile Email Marketing
After reading this post, I was pleased to see that my email marketing messages ARE indeed mobile-friendly. Which is good, because my messages often contain directions for noble tasks best accomplished with a mobile device, like To purchase Storyselling 101, proceed to the kings dungeon and fight the dragon. However, I find that my dragon-related emails still dont convert well. What am I doing wrong?
